In our classroom, students earn marbles for being "marble"-ous. I hope you enjoy reading our blog!

Grade 3's Trip to Upper Canada Village
Today, the Grade 3's visited Upper Canada Village. We could not have asked for a more beautiful and sunny day! We explored all the different historical buildings such as the Dressmaker's Shop, Blacksmith, Cabinetmaker, Physician's House, Lutheran's Pastor House, Bakery, and Telegraph Signal Tower. Also, we went on a wagon ride and boat ride. Another one of the highlights was all the different animals we got to see such as the horses, pigs, and calves! It was great to hear the Grade 3's using their knowledge of Pioneers to ask insightful questions to the workers as we made our way around the village. What a wonderful experience for us all!

End of the Year Slideshows!
The Grade 3/4 class has been hard at work creating slideshows about their favourite memories from this school year! We started by brainstorming our memories using webs. Next, we chose our three favourite memories and used jot notes to organize our ideas and the details. Then, we wrote our rough copies. Lastly, we are working on our good copies!
Last week, we worked on our slideshows using PowerPoint on the computers. They are working so hard, being very creative, and doing an amazing job. I cannot wait for everyone to share their slideshows with the class. Here are some photos of our writing process! More to come later!

This week, we created our own tessellations. A tessellation is when you cover a surface with a pattern of flat shapes that fit together perfectly (no overlaps or gaps). They are coming along beautifully.
Have a wonderful weekend! Just a reminder that the Grade 3's will be writing the EQAO next week on Monday, May 26th and Wednesday, May 28th.
Making 3-D Figures
This week, we learned about 3-D figures. We constructed skeletons of 3-D figures using coffee sticks and plasticine and constructed prisms and pyramids from given nets. Also, we described the attributes of the prisms and pyramids that we created using a chart (e.g., number of vertices, edges, faces). They did a wonderful job and quickly filled the classroom shelves with a variety of pyramids and prisms.

Compare and Contrast
Last week, we discussed comparing and contrasting two items. We started by comparing and contrasting soccer and basketball using a Venn Diagram. The Grade 3/4 class had SO many ideas and we quickly filled up our anchor chart. Next, we practiced! I think the class would all agree that there is no better way to practice than with chocolate.
"I am" Poems
We completed our Poetry unit with "I am" poems. The class was very thoughtful during this writing process and it was a great way for us to learn more about each other.
Battleship
In Math, we have started our Geometry unit. Currently, we are learning about grids and coordinates. To practice, we spent time playing 'Battleship'!
